Jimmy Breslin

Where did he go? Who did he talk to? What did they say?

Weapons Caused Her Greatest Pain
Breslin talks to a mother who has just found out her son, who is in the army, has been killed in Iraq. His way of writing was interesting. Instead of making it seem like an interview, it was more like reading a story in a book. You really felt for the mother as he explained the man getting out of his car and walking up to her door as she watched and wished he would keep walking.
What's worse, is that his love of weapons is what got her son interested in going into the army and its the same thing that killed him.

Flights Of Fear, Anger At JFK
At first, this article is Breslin telling us what he over heard and what he saw as one passenger tried to get through security at JFK airport. The screener wants to screen the passanger again and the passanger gets upset.
At another time in article, Breslin actually steps into a conversation and asks the question "why?" He knows that this is a question that could get people heated in a big debate.

After reading a couple of Breslin's articles I've noticed he has a certain way of writing that i really like. I like how he writes them as if they are a story or part of a book. He puts a lot of visuals in his writing and doesn't make it seem as if he asked them any questions. I think this helps with the flow of the artciles and makes it easier to read them.

What would you like to learn in COMM387 this semester?

For me, I would like to learn different forms of writing and how to write in that particular way. I feel that i always write in the same style and form and I would be able to change it up for different stories I am writing about. Anything else I learn in this class is just a plus.
I also think it would be interesting to learn about different writers and then see something in a newspaper, magazine or other published piece, that they wrote, and be able to identify the writer.
